Chillex 30 Inverter

Description

The Chillex is the straightforward inverter in the range. It has no Super Cool boost, no Ampere Lock and no solar rating, and it costs accordingly. What it does have is the two things that decide whether a split survives here: an LVS compressor and a Gold Fin coil.

Capacity

18,000 BTU/h cooling and 18,000 heating, reversible, for a room of roughly 150 to 250 square feet. Cooling efficiency is rated 3.01 W/W at 8A, heating 2.86 W/W at 8.4A with an A rating on heating.

Starting on weak supply

The compressor is DC inverter with LVS, so it starts and runs when voltage sags rather than stalling and tripping. Both fan motors, indoor and outdoor, are DC rather than AC, which is not true of every unit at this level.

Coils and cleaning

Gold Fin coating on the evaporator against corrosion, with self-cleaning so the coil dries after shutdown and mould does not establish. The dust filter is washable rather than replaceable, which is worth having over years of use.

Everyday use

Jet Cool for fast pull-down from a hot start. I-Feel reads temperature at the remote, so it regulates to where you are sitting rather than to the wall. Auto swing, sleep mode, auto-restart after a cut, and a 24-hour timer.

Fitting it

Indoor unit 908 × 295 × 225 mm at 9.7 kg, outdoor 790 × 550 × 270 mm at 26.6 kg. That indoor unit is smaller than most 1.5 ton splits, which helps on a narrow wall run.
