Description

Powercon X is the volume seller in Dawlance’s inverter range, and its distinguishing features are on the safety side rather than the performance side.

Safety hardware

Two things set it apart. The unit detects refrigerant leakage and shuts itself off rather than continuing to run a starved compressor, which is the failure that usually kills an air conditioner outright. The electronic control box is fireproof rated. Neither is glamorous, and both matter more than most features on a spec sheet.

Capacity and range

18,000 BTU/h cooling and heating, reversible. Cooling running current 7.6A, heating 6.7A. Ambient range is 18°C to 43°C for cooling and 5°C to 43°C for heating, which is narrower than the T3 models in the range. If your outdoor unit sits somewhere that bakes in full afternoon sun, one of the T3 units is the better buy.

Fan motors

Worth knowing before you compare on price: the indoor and outdoor fan motors on this model are AC rather than DC. The compressor is inverter driven with LVS for low-voltage starting, but the fans are not variable in the way the Chillex or Hyper fans are.

Build and upkeep

Gold Fin coating on both condenser and evaporator. I-Feel remote temperature sensing, memory resumption after a power cut, auto-restart, 24-hour timer, sleep mode and an easily removable filter. Indoor unit 10.6 kg, outdoor 32.6 kg.
